Imperfect Action: The Catalyst for Personal and Creative Growth
Ever feel like you're stuck in a rut, going through the motions without a clear sense of purpose or fulfillment? It's a common sentiment, and I want to address it. I recently came across Steph Taylor's podcast, "Imperfect Action," where she emphasizes the importance of moving before you're ready. Sometimes, to make progress, you have to take imperfect action, and I'll leave a link to her podcast in the show notes.
Many of us seek validation on social media, but it's crucial to understand that this validation is often hollow. Those validating you may not truly know you authentically. External validation is fleeting, and its significance is shallow. The true starting point for a fulfilling journey is self-validation.
I've struggled with this as a content creator. Seeking likes and validation is instinctive, but I had to remind myself that it all starts within. If I don't see myself as a person of value, external validation won't change that perception. I had to recognize my own worth to move forward, not just in content creation but in life.
Making imperfect action is uncomfortable but necessary. Waiting for the perfect time is futile because there is no perfect time. It's about taking calculated steps, even small ones, toward your goals. Whether it's writing a book or starting a new project, break it down into manageable pieces. Small victories build confidence and momentum.
The concept of failing forward is powerful. Every mistake is a learning experience, a step toward improvement. Waiting until you feel ready to take action means you'll never start. You learn by doing, by putting in the effort, and by embracing the journey of growth.
Mountains aren't built in a day. Start small, with an outline or character descriptions. Invest time in growing, learning, practicing, and repeating. Give yourself grace; perfection is unattainable. Recognize that small victories and mistakes are part of the process.
This podcast is a bit selfish for me—it's cathartic. Sharing my experiences, even the mistakes, allows me to impart wisdom and help others on a similar path. I'm committed to helping you become your best self, recognizing your greatness, and achieving it. Remember, my advice is just that—advice. Take it with a grain of salt, but if it resonates, you're not alone. You have to believe in yourself, take small steps, and you'll get there.
